An empirical analysis of dematerialisation: Application to metal policies in The Netherlands
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents a first empirical step in filling the gap between physical and economic models, by combining a material flow model and an applied general equilibrium (AGE) model. The goal of this paper is threefold. Firstly, a new methodology is discussed for the integration of material and economic flow models. Secondly, the new methodology is tested for its empirical applicability by simulation of material policies. Finally, the analysis leads to the identification of major steps for filling the existing gap between physical and economic models further. Fiscal material policies are imposed to reduce the use of specific materials. The material levy and the accompanying labour tax reduction shift the tax burden from labour to the use of materials. The empirical illustration shows that the physical and economic flows can be made mutually compatible, and that the combined model can be used for empirical analysis of material policies. From this analysis of material policies in an economic model it may be concluded that the combination of an AGE model and a material flow model may produce an appropriate tool for analysing environmental, sectoral and distributional effects of dematerialisation policies. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Medicalization Defined in Empirical Contexts – A Scoping Review
Background Medicalization has been a topic of discussion and research for over four decades. It is a known concept to researchers from a broad range of disciplines. Medicalization appears to be a concept that speaks to all, suggesting a shared understanding of what it constitutes. However, conceptually, the definition of medicalizat...
متن کاملThe Global Health Policies of the EU and its Member States: A Common Vision?
Background This article assesses the global health policies of the European Union (EU) and those of its individual member states. So far EU and public health scholars have paid little heed to this, despite the large budgets involved in this area. While the European Commission has attempted to define the ‘EU role in Global Health’ in 2010, member states are active in the domain of global health ...
متن کاملNeeds and Availability of Snake Antivenoms: Relevance and Application of International Guidelines
Background Snakebite has recently been declared a global public health emergency. Empirical data showing the true burden of snakebite is lacking. Treatment with specific antivenoms is considered the only cure. However, several factors have led to an ongoing antivenom crisis. This study offers recommendations concerning the improvement of antivenom access and control, by providing an overview of...
متن کاملDemocracy and Environment Quality in Selected Countries: An Application of Panel Data
T his study investigates the relationship between quality of environment and democracy among different countries over the period of 2002 - 2012. Democracy and accumulated democracy indices have been considered as political inequality variables influencing the quality of the environment among different countries in the reduced form of Kuznets’ environmental curve (EKC) hypotheses mode...
متن کاملEmpirical Likelihood Approach and its Application on Survival Analysis
A number of nonparametric methods exist when studying the population and its parameters in the situation when the distribution is unknown. Some of them such as "resampling bootstrap method" are based on resampling from an initial sample. In this article empirical likelihood approach is introduced as a nonparametric method for more efficient use of auxiliary information to construct...
